Blue Jays Writer Refutes Report Toronto Asked for Gleyber Torres in Marcus Stroman Trade
By Parker White

Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet brought Bryan Hoch's report to our attention Friday claiming that the Toronto Blue Jays were asking for New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres, along with top pitching prospect Deivi Garcia, when it came to starter Marcus Stroman.
You can't blame a team for aiming high, but we all know that is too steep, which is why Nicholson-Smith refuted that earlier report on Saturday, after a bit more digging.
Heard this morning that Gleyber Torres’ name has not, in fact, come up in talks between #BlueJays and Yankees.

Stands to reason the ask would be high on Stroman and/or Giles, but it hasn’t involved Torres from what I’ve heard https://t.co/J3bRsJHDXz
Stroman may not be Madison Bumgarner or some other top-of-the-rotation starter, but he's at the very top of a starting pitching market that is devoid of game-changing talent.

Stroman is, however, putting together a strong 2019 campaign, where he owns a 2.96 ERA over 21 starts, and with the lack of other frontline starters currently available, the asking price will be pretty high, especially since he's not a rental.
Even if the Yankees were looking to acquire Stroman and Blue Jays closer Ken Giles, wanting Torres would be out of the question on New York's end. You may be augmenting the pitching staff, but you'd be losing a pillar of this franchise for years to come.
