A's Manager Bob Melvin Admits MLB Ignored Their Warnings About Astros Before Mike Fiers Came Forward
By Jerry Trotta
Oakland Athletics pitcher Mike Fiers is considered a hero to most MLB fans after he was named the source that set the league's investigation into the Houston Astros in motion.
Fiers "squealing" to The Athletic has led to punishments being levied, and an elongated chain reaction that presently sees a legion of analysts and fans disgruntled with the lack of desire to reveal the truth behind the buzzer theory.
Well, it turns out that Fiers wasn't the first provoked victim that attempted to come public. Oakland skipper Bob Melvin recently disclosed that the MLB ignored his assertions, which came before Fiers' bombshell, that Houston was cheating.
What was it we were saying about a chain reaction?
Melvin's statement further proves that the league couldn't have been bothered to investigate the Astros before The Athletic's shocking report a few months back.
Who knows where things would stand if Fiers hand't come forward? It's not outlandish to assume that Houston would be brainstorming new cheating operations, or as they coined it, the dark arts.
Again, Melvin said that a throng of opponents, though they didn't necessarily know what Houston was tinkering with, suspected that the Astros were doing something to attain an unethical competitive advantage by illegal means.
It really makes you wonder why Melvin's claims were dismissed so hurriedly. Care to guess how many times his Athletics have played the Astros throughout the years?
It's ridiculous, and Melvin has every reason to be incensed with the MLB even though justice has technically been served.
