Bobby Wagner's Behavior After Seahawks Selected Jordyn Brooks is More Proof He's a True Leader
By Nick Porr
Not all rookies are immediately welcomed into the NFL. Fans, teammates, and pundits spend time critiquing players from day one, forming a somewhat-uncomfortable environment. Luckily for Jordyn Brooks, it looks like he's got a friend in Bobby Wagner.
Brooks, an interior linebacker from Texas Tech, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks with the no. 27 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft Thursday night. The moment he was drafted, long-time Seahawks interior linebacker Wagner immediately wanted to introduce himself.
Wagner's actions show that he is the definition of a leader. Wagner has played eight seasons for the Seahawks, during which he has been named First Team All-Pro five times. He was a key piece of the defense during their 2013 championship year, helping shut down Peyton Manning and the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Wagner continues to lead the Seahawks defense now, even as it undergoes substantial changes. With star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney still a free agent, the future of Seattle's defense is uncertain. The pick of Brooks may have even increased the odds that Clowney will not return.
Wagner is not the only Seahawks leader to be welcoming Brooks to the team, of course. Russell Wilson, Seattle's star quarterback, tweeted a congratulations to Brooks last night after he was picked.
Some players are intimidated when their team drafts a player highly at their position, but Wagner looks ready to welcome Brooks with open arms. The players are already warming up to him, and now it's time for Brooks to step up and prove his worth.
