3 Bold Predictions for the Chiefs in 2020 NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl honeymoon is officially over and they now need to figure out a way to add complementary pieces around Patrick Mahomes on offense and Chris Jones on defense.

Brett Veach only has five picks to accomplish this with, so he needs to be sure that the Chiefs either trade down and stock up on picks or nail the ones they have. The Chiefs' peculiar cap situation and holes on defense, however, could force them to make some really wacky moves.

3. They Use Pick No. 32 on a Running Back

Damien Williams became a Super Bowl star, but Kansas City knows it's unwise to count on the former Oklahoma back to replicate his standout playoff production over 16 regular season games. Plus, he'll be a free agent after 2020. Pick No. 32 puts the Chiefs in prime position to take an elite running back prospect who can carry the load between the tackles while becoming an integral part of the passing game. The likes of D'Andre Swift, JK Dobbins, Jonathan Taylor, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire all stand out as potential selections at No. 32, though the first three may not be available by then.

2. Anthony Hitchens Gets Traded During the Draft

Hitchens is eating up nearly $13 million in cap space, and his play on the field comes nowhere close to justifying that amount of money. Having said that, Hitches has proven to be at least serviceable at the NFL level, and a handful of teams in the league are currently playing without productive linebackers. Look for Veach to offload his contract on Thursday and draft a replacement on Friday or Saturday.

1. They Draft Another Speedy Wide Receiver

The Chiefs will likely not have the resources to move up and take Alabama's Henry Ruggs III, but Andy Reid and Brett Veach might be on the lookout for another explosive receiver that can be used to either spell Tyreek Hill or play alongside him in four wide receiver sets. TCU's Jalen Reagor could be an option if they use a premium pick on a wideout, while players like Texas' Devin Duvernay could be an option in the middle of the draft.
