3 Bold Predictions for the Seahawks in the NFL Draft
Come Thursday, all eyes in Seattle will be on John Schneider and Pete Carroll. It's NFL Draft time, folks! After an early exit in the postseason last year, the Seahawks are eyeing another push toward the Super Bowl.
Starting Thursday, the front office will be looking to add pieces to help them take the next step. So, what can fans expect come Day 1 and throughout the weekend? Well, here's what could happen that might not be too high up on your list.
3. A Second-Round Pick for Another Offensive Lineman?
Schneider has been busy going after hosses this offseason, signing eight (EIGHT) offensive linemen, including Brandon Shell, B.J. Finney, Cedric Ogbuehi and Chance Warmack. With so many new bodies up front, the Hawks wouldn't dare use an early pick on a lineman, would they? We think so. Just because the Seahawks have been so aggressive with their OL deals, that doesn't mean they won't pass on a young stud to go to war in the trenches. A player to keep an eye on would be LSU interior lineman
Lloyd Cushenberry III. The 6-3, 312-pounder could be available for Seattle to take with the last pick in the second round. If he's there, look for Schneider to grab him.
2. Seattle Takes RB Jonathan Taylor in the First Round
Running back might not seem like a top priority for the Seahawks, but don't forget how things unfolded late last campaign. Remember when Seattle was forced to sign Marshawn Lynch because of so many injuries? Lynch doesn't look to be coming back, while CJ Prosise is a free agent. That leaves Rashaad Penny and Chris Carson as the standouts, both of whom suffered season-ending injuries in 2019. Jonathan Taylor was a monster at Wisconsin, rushing for 6,174 yards and 50 touchdowns. You know who else Seattle drafted from Wisconsin? Russell Wilson. Get these two Badgers together and watch magic happen.
1. Streak is Broken and Hawks Draft a Coug
It's been 17 long years since the Seahawks drafted a Washington State product. No love for the Cougs? With cornerback Marcus Trufant (2003) being the last Wazzu player taken by Seattle, we think the narrative changes this year. In the later rounds, Dezmon Patmon figures to be available and he's fresh off a brilliant showing at the Combine, which included a 4.48 40-yard dash. After a superb career under Mike Leach at WSU, his 6-4, 228-pound frame would be a welcome addition to a Seattle offense that loves big-bodied receivers. Adding Patmon to the mix for Russell Wilson would be a sweet deal for everyone involved.
