3 Bold Predictions for the Saints in 2020 NFL Draft
By Andrew Gullotta
Throughout Saints' history, they have regularly made bold moves on draft day. Just to name a few examples, New Orleans gave up their whole draft and then some to select Ricky Williams and, in 2018, the team traded up 14 spots to choose pass rusher Marcus Davenport.
Who's to say that there isn't a splash move made down on the Bayou during this year's draft? Here are three bold predictions that would surprise Saints fans and experts alike.
3. Trade up to Select QB Jordan Love
The Saints have been waiting patiently to draft legend Drew Brees' replacement. In 2017, the Saints were zeroing in to draft Patrick Mahomes, but the Chiefs leapfrogged them and got their franchise signal caller. This time around, New Orleans will ensure that they get their guy and jump ahead of teams like the Dolphins, Raiders and Patriots in the second half of the first round to select Utah State QB Jordan Love. Look for New Orleans to make a deal with Dallas. Or, if the Raiders and Dolphins take a QB with their first selection, perhaps a deal with one of those two could come to fruition as well.
2. Trade Back for the First Time in 13 Years
It's surprising, but the Saints' haven't moved back in a draft over the last 13 years! Watch coach Sean Payton surprise us all by trade down in the first round and add some more draft capital in the process. With these two picks, the Saints will have more flexibility to fill needs on the current team and for the future. Look for them to select a guy like Ohio State RB JK Dobbins to prepare for Alvin Kamara's potential departure. The Saints met with him last week so it's not out of the question he becomes their first pick.
1. Trade up to Select Henry Ruggs III
You want to give Drew Brees one more chance to win his second Super Bowl? How about adding the quickest receiver in the draft? This move would shake the league up in a big way, as the Saints would have countless weapons on offense and create a matchup nightmare for every defense. The last piece to the Saints' offensive puzzle is a deep threat, and Ruggs is the best available. Moving into the top-15 drives a hard bargain, as the Saints might have to give up next year's first-round pick, but it's worth it if you add the missing piece to a Super Bowl team.
