Boston Mayor Confirms No Fans Will Be Allowed Inside Fenway Park This Summer in Latest Baseball Gut Punch

Major League Baseball has still not settled on a plan to play a 2020 season. Even so, pleny of fans are still holding out hope games will not only be played, but that they will be allowed in the stands in some form or fashion.

That has seemed unlikely all along, of course, and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has now confirmed that any Red Sox games played at Fenway Park in 2020 will take place behind closed doors.

This news is expected, but it is still a bummer now that it is official. Plenty of other cities are sure to follow suit; this announcement could starts a trend across the country.

And it's surely not going to be limited to baseball, either.

Mayor Marty Walsh also touched on the fact that no sports teams in the city will play in front of fans this summer. Right now, the goal is to just get games played. That will be a worthy consolation after initial thoughts that seasons could be outright cancelled because of COVID-19. But don't be afraid to be upset about not being able to attend a game -- that is just the life of a sports fan right now, and we're all in the same boat.
