Boston Red Sox Reportedly Sign Former Reds Second Baseman Jose Peraza
By Adam Weinrib
With Brock Holt likely departing Boston and Dustin Pedroia far from his former self (sorry on both counts!), the Sox have added a former top prospect to the fray to stay flexible.
Jose Peraza, recently DFA'd by the Reds in a bit of a surprise roster shuffle, is reportedly heading to Boston on an incentive-laden deal.
Peraza had a rough 2019, performing below the famously anemic-at-the-bat Billy Hamilton's level, but his 2018 was far more impressive.
That year, the 24-year-old Peraza hit .288 with 14 homers, living up to his billing as Atlanta's former No. 1 prospect. During his time in Cincy, though, he found himself losing playing time to Scooter Gennett, Derek Dietrich, and other such outlandish personalities.
This is a perfect little unrealized depth signing for Chaim Bloom, who's already brought back Marco Hernandez and made a Rule 5 selection of infielder Jonathan Arauz in an effort to beef up the roster's flexibility.
We'll see which Peraza shows up this year.
