Rising Star Boxer Vergil Ortiz Jr. Reveals He Once Tried and Failed to Slip Into Selena Gomez's DMs

Every now and then, the decision is made. The die is cast. You simpy feel the need to shoot your shot with a fetching guy or gal on social media. If it doesn't go well, we usually just end up forgetting about it -- and hopefully, your overture is polite and devoid of, ummm, attached images regardless.
Forgetting about it, however, was not what happend in the case of Vergil Ortiz Jr. The up-and-coming welterweight boxing star took to Twitter to recall the time that he tried to slide into Selena Gomez's DMs back in 2017, but failed comprehensively.

Ortiz may be undefeated inside the ring, but it's clear that he's taken at least one notable L outside of it. (To be fair, he was but a young man of 18 at the time and had only fought four professional bouts.)
Of course, the kid was never lacking for confidence. He practically guaranteed that he'd be famous, and almost three years later; right on cue, he was named ESPN's Prospect of the Year for 2019. He's now 15-0, and all of his wins have come by knockout. He's tearing things up in the boxing world.

With enough sustained success, he might just get Gomez's attention one day.
Yes, he may have missed on his absolute prayer of a shot three years ago, but he's clearly used that moment as a solid bit of motivation.
