Brad Ausmus Calls for Suspension After Jake Marisnick Collision With Jonathan Lucroy
By Scott Rogust

With Sunday's slate of MLB games supposed to sleepily signal the official start the All-Star break, fans were given quite the scare during the Houston Astros-Los Angeles Angels matchup.
During the game, Jake Marisnick made a mad dash for home plate and violently collided with Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy. The veteran catcher laid on the field for an extended time, before being carted off the field, taken to the hospital under suspicion of a concussion.
Angels manager Brad Ausmus was far from a happy camper seeing his starting catcher in such a bloody state, and he's adamant that the league suspend the Astros outfielder for his unnecessary transgression.
Ausmus, on the play at the plate: "It certainly didn’t look like a clean play... It looked like Marisnick took a step to the left and bowled into him with his arm up. The call was right. MLB should probably take a look at it and consider some type of suspension quite frankly.”

During the play, Marisnick ducked into Lucroy's path and proceeded to lower his shoulder, hitting the catcher flush in the face. As a result of his unnecessary directional change, Marisnick was called out by the home plate umpire following a review.
Lucroy was sent to a local medical facility to undergo a CT scan for a possible concussion and nose fracture.
MEDICAL UPDATE: Jonathan Lucroy was removed from today’s game after a collision at home plate. He is on his way to a local hospital for a CT scan and will be evaluated for a possible concussion and nose fracture.

While Marisnick was sympathetic towards Lucroy's condition, he defended his decision to run towards the outside of home plate on Twitter. He also stressed his decision to slide in head first was a split-second call, and it unfortunately resulted in Lucroy getting injured.
Through my eyes I thought the play was going to end up on the outside of the plate. I made a split second decision at full speed to slide head first on the inside part of the plate. That decision got another player hurt and I feel awful. I hope nothing but the best for @JLucroy20

It's unknown what (if any) punishment Jake Marisnick faces from the league, but Brad Ausmus made it abundantly clear he wants him suspended when the team returns to action. Enjoy your...break, Jake?
