Braves Acquire Catcher John Ryan Murphy From D-Backs
By Max Scoli
The Atlanta Braves have made a move to add some catching depth at the MLB trade deadline.
The Braces acquired John Ryan Murphy from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for cash considerations.
There is no question that Brian McCann is the starter, so it's hard to imagine that Murphy will see that much time on the field, especially with the way he has been playing lately.
In the 2019 MLB Season, Murphy is batting a minuscule .177 with just 4 homers and 7 RBI in 62 at-bats. He may end up in Triple-A, as he would be competing with Tyler Flowers for the backup role.
The Diamondbacks clearly just wanted the catcher off of their roster. He just isn't the player he once was, and it was time to sever all ties.
His best season came in 2015 as a member of the New York Yankees when he maintained a .277 BA along with 3 homers and a career-high 14 RBI in 155 at-bats.
Look for Murphy to try and earn a spot on the Braves' big league roster as the team gears up for October.
