3 Braves One-Hit Wonders We Wish Hadn't Disappeared
By Max Smith
The Braves have seen many players come and go in their 149-year history. Some have had long and successful careers with the team, while others had short stints of success before fading into oblivion.
Imagine what could have been if these three one-hit wonders in Atlanta could've kept it together or stayed with the team.
3. Jaret Wright
After a promising rookie year for the Indians in 1997, Jaret Wright was unable to find his stride in the MLB until the Braves claimed him on waivers in 2003. In his first full season with the Braves in 2004, Wright won 15 games with a 3.28 ERA. The Braves let him walk to the Yankees in free agency that offseason, where he fell back into mediocrity. He was out of the league by 2007.
2. JD Drew
JD Drew spent one season with the Braves back in 2004 and finished sixth in the MVP voting -- the only time he's ever received MVP votes. He arguably had the second best campaign of his career, slashing .305/.436/.569 with 118 runs scored, 31 home runs and 93 RBI, which helped the Braves win the NL East. He then left for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason before finishing up his playing days with the Boston Red Sox.
1. Buzz Capra
The Braves picked up Buzz Capra after three mediocre years with the Mets, with whom he held a 4.49 ERA. His first year with the Braves was outstanding, though. He made the All-Star Game and finished ninth in the Cy Young voting with a league-leading 2.28 ERA. Capra was a true one-season wonder, as he only played in 62 more games in his career. He was out of baseball following the 1977 season.
