Braves Place Nick Markakis and Dansby Swanson on Injured List With Wrist Fracture and Foot Contusion
By Parker White
The Atlanta Braves have been able to skirt adversity for most of the season, but they received some bad news on Saturday, as they placed outfielder Nick Markakis and shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list.
To take their spots on the active roster, Atlanta reinstated left-handed starter Max Fried from the 10-day injured list, and recalled outfielder Adam Duvall from Triple-A Gwinnett.
After getting hit by a pitch Friday night, the Braves feared for the worst when it came to Markakis. They removed him from the game and replaced him with Charlie Culberson. Now that Duvall, who set the franchise Triple-A record with 29 home runs, has been called up, you have to expect he'll have a chance at an everyday role in the Braves outfield.
Atlanta is hopeful that Markakis will return late in the season. In 104 games this season, Markakis has slashed .284/.358/.429 with nine home runs and 55 RBI.
Swanson's IL stint is retroactive to July 24, as he remains out with a right foot contusion. Unless they make a move in the coming days. infielder Johan Camargo should see regular time up the middle.
Fried, who went down with a blister, has been reinstated, and will get the start Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.
