Braves Release Former Top Pitching Prospect Luiz Gohara
By Parker White

After the Atlanta Braves acquired three new relief pitchers before the trade deadline, they needed room on the 40-man roster, which is why they designated left-handed pitcher Luiz Gohara for assignment.
Atlanta went a step further on Friday, as they decided to release the former top pitching prospect.
The Braves released LHP Luiz Gohara.

After the Braves acquired Gohara from the Seattle Mariners a couple years ago, he immediately shot up their prospect rankings, showing electric stuff on the mound that made you believe he could end up being a top-of-the-rotation starter.
Unfortunately, the 23-year-old hurler has been dealing with what appears to be a severe injury to his left shoulder that required season-ending surgery. Gohara didn't throw a single pitch in 2019.
If Luiz Gohara ever makes it back, it'll be quite a story. It's also a very big "if" unfortunately.

Unless he decides to call it a career, some team will give Gohara another chance to prove he's healthy and at the very least become a relief pitcher. His talent is too great to totally give up on, but the Braves are loaded with pitching talent and had no use to keep him around.
