Braves Replacing Chris Martin With Julio Teheran on NLDS Roster
By Chris Pyo
After all the fuss involving Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker and his decision to omit pitcher Julio Teheran from the Braves' playoff roster, the entire situation has been resolved now.
It's been announced that Teheran will be replacing Chris Martin for the rest of the NDLS and potentially beyond, if the Braves make it that far.
Martin was warming up before the eighth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS when he suffered an injury and had to exit the game. It was later announced that Martin was diagnosed with a strained oblique.
Teheran had initially been left off the Braves' NLDS roster because Snitker wanted to carry another left-handed batter on their roster.
The Braves felt that it was more necessary for them to have the bat of Rafael Ortega rather than Teheran's arm. Ortega's batted .205 with a WAR of -0.4, while Teheran had a respectable 3.81 ERA with a 2.4 WAR and a WHIP of 1.32. This was definitely one of Brian Snitker's more questionable moves.
We'll see if Teheran's able to have a positive effect on the Braves' postseason run. After losing Game 1 by a score of 7-6, they need all the help they can get.
