Braves and Rockies Have Reportedly Discussed Nolan Arenado Trade
By Jerry Trotta
In the wake of Anthony Rendon's massive contract with the Los Angeles Angels, and Josh Donaldson likely signing a deal north of $100, teams across the league are taking to the trade market to add a third baseman.
As we know, the Colorado Rockies are rumored to be entertaining the thought of dealing superstar Nolan Arenado, just one offseason after extending him for big money.
In an effort to keep the rumor mill updated, MLB insider Jon Morosi understands that the Atlanta Braves, who will be looking to replace Donaldson should he sign with another club, have reportedly inquired about the superstar third baseman.
Morosi notes that talks have recently stalled, as Atlanta is seriously deliberating taking Arenado's monstrous contract to the chin. Of course, the five-time All-Star is still owed $234 million of the eight-year, $260 million extension he signed with Colorado last offseason.
Given the Braves' bounty of riches in their farm system, they boast the kind of prospect haul that the Rockies would undoubtedly demand in any return package for Arenado.
We'll certainly know more of the Braves intentions to pursue one of the game's best players once Donaldson is signed. After all, there's no replacing Donaldson's production -- 37 home runs, 94 RBI, .379 OBP, .521 SLG, and .900 OPS -- on the current FA market.
