Braves Should Go All Out to Trade for Zack Greinke
By Brian Cass
The NL East leading Atlanta Braves have cemented themselves as one of the teams to beat as we get closer to the postseason. The Braves have managed to grow their division lead to 5.5 games, and they seem primed to make some noise once October rolls around.
There's no doubt they'll be buyers leading up to the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline. They could certainly use some help in their rotation. Although they already added Dallas Keuchel to their pitching staff this season, they still rank in the bottom half of the NL in team ERA.
They could really use another solid arm to help bolster their rotation en route to a deep postseason run. Arizona's Zack Greinke should be at the top their trade wish list.
Rumors around Arizona have been swirling for months about the possibility of dealing Zack Greinke. At 35 years old, Greinke may not net a huge return for the Diamondbacks, but shedding his salary seems like the D-Backs top priority as we approach the deadline.
Rookie Mike Soroka and Keuchel have been the only consistent pitchers for Atlanta this season. Mike Foltynewicz has pitched himself back to Triple-A, Kevin Gausman has struggled throughout the year and Max Fried is currently on the IL.
While the Braves have been dominant at the plate this season, scoring the sixth most runs in the MLB with 527, they haven't seen nearly the same type of success on the mound, posting the 12th best team ERA in baseball with a 4.29 mark.
They seem like they're just one pitcher away from being in the World Series discussion, and inserting Greinke's 2.93 ERA into their rotation would undoubtedly make a monster difference.
