Mets Reportedly Agree to Trade for Blue Jays Ace Marcus Stroman
By Mark Powell
This we admittedly did not see coming.
Sure, some MLB insiders had hinted at the possibility of the Mets dealing Noah Syndergaard only to then acquire Marcus Stroman, but perhaps we just doubted Brodie Van Wagenen's muscle. Instead, the first-year GM is going all-out to improve his roster as currently constructed despite the failures of the past few months.
Or, maybe, this is part of a bigger plan.
The Mets would reportedly be interested in an extension with Stroman, but if that doesn't seem like a realistic possibility they also have the option to flip him. Viable contenders such as the cross-town Yankees were thought to be in of the Jays ace as well, especially considering their struggles against the Boston Red Sox this past weekend.
However, the Mets have stolen the All-Star caliber righty from right under the nose of their sibling from the Bronx.
Stroman is 6-11 on the season but much of that is due to the abysmal record of the Toronto Blue Jays. Should he received some run support in Queens, that number could improve given his stellar 2.96 ERA.
More to come as information becomes available.
