BREAKING: Padres Fire Manager Andy Green
By Parker White
While playoff teams are clinching division titles, the bottom-feeders are already thinking about next year and what direction they are headed.
For the San Diego Padres, they have a lot of young talent with upside, but they'll be nurturing their core with a different leader, as they've fired skipper Andy Green after four seasons.
“I want to thank Andy for his tireless work and dedication to the Padres over the last four seasons,” San Diego General Manager A.J. Preller said. “This was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we felt was necessary at this time to take our organization to the next level and expedite the process of bringing a championship to San Diego. Our search for a new manager will begin immediately.”
During his time in San Diego, Green owned a 274-366 record and never finished above .500. Green is under contract through 2021, so he'll be paid to not manage this team.
