Yankees Place Edwin Encarnacion on IL With Wrist Fracture

The Yankees might be heading into their game against the Boston Red Sox with a 70-39 record, but this season can't help but feel a little bit cursed after their latest injury news.

First baseman and DH Edwin Encarnacion has been placed on the IL with a wrist fracture that could keep him out for some time. To replace him, the Yankees called up Mike Ford from Triple-A.

Encarnacion has topped 30 home runs for the eighth straight season in 2019, a year which has been split between the Yankees and Mariners. He is hitting .223 with nine home runs in 35 games as a Yankee, and .234 with 30 home runs on the season.

Even though Encarnacion stayed in after being hit by a pitch on the hand in the first game of the doubleheader and underwent X-rays that came out negative, even he can't escape a trip to the IL.

While the severity of the injury remains to be seen, it will be a while before Yankees fans can see the parrot fly as Encarnacion heals up.
