Yankees Place Luke Voit on IL With Abdominal Strain
By Parker White
More bad injury luck for the Bronx Bombers has arrived.
On Tuesday, the New York Yankees placed first baseman Luke Voit on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal strain. The move is retroactive to June 30 and to take Voit's spot on the active roster, the Yankees recalled infielder Mike Ford from Triple-A Scranton.
The Yankees also recalled left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A Scranton and optioned right-hander Chance Adams.
Voit exited Saturday's game with what appeared to be a leg injury, but the Yankee slugger has been sidelined the last couple of days with an abdominal strain. He was hoping to avoid an IL stint, but it appears he needs a little while longer to settle this down.
This isn't the first time the Yankees have dealt with an IL stint from a key offensive player this season, so they should be able to weather the storm, especially since Aaron Judge is back.
Voit has put up an All-Star caliber first half, slashing .280/.393/.509 with 17 home runs and 50 RBI.
