Brett Anderson Jokes the Athletics Couldn't Cheat Because the Organization is too Cheap
By Jerry Trotta
The Oakland Athletics, though they've never advanced deep into the postseason in recent seasons, were one of the clubs most exploited by the Houston Astros' sign-stealing operation.
Both teams play in the AL West, and it's truly disturbing to think how many times Houston could have cheated against Oakland given how often they face each other. Like a legion of players around MLB, several A's have come forward to voice their bitterness with the Astros.
Well, a former Athletic decided to poke fun at the situation. Left-handed hurler Brett Anderson, who signed with the Brewers in free agency, hilariously claimed that Oakland would never cheat because the organization couldn't afford it.
The Coliseum, which opened in 1966, is one of the oldest stadium in the MLB, and to to make things worse, hardly any renovations or upgrades have been instilled over the years. A product of that has been fluctuating lighting malfunctions and the occasional sewage leak, though Anderson jokingly suggested the team use that to its advantage.
As hot takes and hostility continue to accumulate around the league, it was refreshing to see a player take a more humorous approach to discussing the matter that has engulfed the entire offseason.
