Brewers Acquire Right-Hander JP Feyereisen From Yankees in Rare September Trade
By Jerry Trotta
Nothing like a little September commerce in MLB to spice up this Labor Day, right?
The Milwaukee Brewers opted to add another arm to their bullpen on Monday by reportedly acquiring minor league right-hander JP Feyereisen from the New York Yankees in exchange for infield prospect Brenny Escanio and international singing bonus pool money.
If you wondering how both club's managed to complete a swap with the trade deadline (July 31) long done, it's because both Feyereisen and Escanio have neither made an appearance on the Brewers' or Yanks' 40-man roster in 2019 -- a concept that makes them eligible to be moved.
We presume that Feyereisen will join Milwaukee's big league bullpen, as he's enjoyed a stellar season with Triple-A Scranton. Across 61.1 innings, the 26-year-old has logged a 2.39 ERA while averaging a staggering 13.8 strikeouts per nine innings.
Despite those numbers, he had anything but a future in Pinstripes with New York already flaunting the league's deepest pen.
As for Escanio, the Brewers signed him to a contract back in early July as an international free agent. The 16-year-old Dominican Republic native had yet to debut within the club's minor league ranks in 2019 prior to the trade.
