Brewers Assistant GM Matt Arnold Tied to Pirates Front Office Job
By Adam Weinrib

Just a few days after the Red Sox plundered one of their rivals to add sought-after Rays executive Chaim Bloom to their top front office post, the Pirates may be trying to do the same thing.
Per the rumor mill, the Pittsburgh Pirates, hours after firing GM Neal Huntington, have been most connected to a Milwaukee Brewers executive to fill the gap: assistant GM Matt Arnold.
One name I’ve heard connected to Pirates GM opening: Brewers assistant GM Matt Arnold.

“He’s deserving and should get a chance,” one high-ranking rival executive said.
Arnold, who also serves as the team's Senior VP, was hired following the 2015 season, and assists GM David Stearns with his decision-making, while overseeing day-to-day operations of multiple departments.
Huntington, Pittsburgh's long-time GM, lost his job to wrap up a full housecleaning. Though the order of departures was bizarre, the result was a highly necessary regime change in a city that's long been disappointed by a consistent failure to maximize trade value (and to spend, of course, but that burden falls on ownership).
Can confirm the Pirates are firing GM Neal Huntington with two years left on his contract, as @JMackeyPG just reported.

Clean sweep, albeit in an unusual order: manager Clint Hurdle, president Frank Coonelly, GM Neal Huntington.
If Arnold is ultimately hired, he should study the exact opposite of the Chris Archer deal.
