Brewers Designate Jhoulys Chacín for Assignment

The Milwaukee Brewers have had no luck with the health of their starting pitchers in 2019.
According to Robert Murray of The Athletic, the Milwaukee Brewers have designated right-handed starter Jhoulys Chacin for assignment after the 31-year-old was placed on the injured list with a lat strain which will sideline him until mid-September.
Chacín was an effective member of the Brewers' rotation in 2018, making 35 starts and posting a 3.50 ERA, but the soft-tossing veteran has struggled mightily in 2019, as he's made 19 starts and owns a whopping 5.79 ERA over 88.2 innings.
The 31-year-old will be a free agent at seasons end, as this is the final year of a two-year deal, so the decision to DFA him won't have long-standing implications.
Now that Chacín is on waivers he could be picked up by a contender in need of rotation depth or a long-relief option in their bullpen. Unfortunately, he has had plenty of command issues this season, particularly with his slider, so teams may be wary of picking him up.
