Brewers GM Makes it Clear He'd Like to Keep Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal

The Milwaukee Brewers' season came to an abrupt end on Tuesday after their crushing defeat in the NL Wild Card game against the Washington Nationals, and now they're turning their eyes towards the offseason.
Key contributors Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal are headed into free agency this year, but Brewers general manager David Stearns has made it clear that he'd like to bring both of them back for another run at the playoffs in 2020, budget be damned.
Controversial it is not. The two of them have been dominant at their respective positions ever since they joined the Brewers.
Grandal, in particular, established himself as one of the best catchers in all of baseball during his one-year stint in Milwaukee. Among catchers with at least 350 plate appearances, his 5.2 fWAR ranked second in the league, and his 121 wRC+ trailed only that of injured Cubs star Willson Contreras.
In a similar vein, Moustakas handled himself well after moving to second base for the Brewers. He finished with 2.8 fWAR, 11th among all second basemen, and a quality 113 wRC+, picking up for the scuffling Travis Shaw.
Both players seem destined for hefty paydays, something that might make retaining them more difficult for the small market Brewers. They both have mutual options that, when combined, would total up to $27 million, which certainly isn't chump change.
It'll be interesting to see how Stearns and the Brewers play their cards this offseason. If they manage to convince both of them to stay, then it'll be an absolute heist, and will prove a rededication to dominance.
