Brewers in 'Serious and Advanced' Talks With Avisail Garcia
By Michael Luciano
One of the most reliable hitting outfielders available on the free agent market appears to be headed for Milwaukee.
Avisail Garcia, a former All-Star with the Chicago White Sox who spent last year with the Tampa Bay Rays, has had some serious conversations with the Brewers. While the Miami Marlins had interest, it appears Milwaukee is likely to be the highest bigger for his services.
Tampa was able to move off of Garcia when they acquired power-hitting outfielder Hunter Renfroe from the San Diego Padres and signed Japanese slugger Yoshitomo Tsutsugo.
Garcia was a solid veteran addition on a young Rays team in 2019, hitting .282 with a career-high 20 home runs and 72 RBI.
His best moment in a Rays uniform came in the AL Wild Card game, when he launched a monster home run off of Oakland A's starter Sean Manaea.
Garcia would add some consistency and pop to a Milwaukee lineup looking to add to their depth outside of Christian Yelich. Without breaking the bank, Milwaukee can quietly continue to bolster their outfield as they look to take the NL Central crown this season.
