Brewers Need to Recall Keston Hiura and Stop Pledging Faith to Travis Shaw
By Brendan Azoff
Whatever the Brewers, a team that must succeed at the margins to top the Cubs, are doing right now is confounding.
Travis Shaw is hitting an abysmal .167 this season and continues to struggle , hurting the Brew Crew every time he is in their lineup. Yet despite the lack of production and the fact that they have a stud of a young prospect waiting in the wings, Shaw continues to get time, and a roster move has yet to be made.
The time is now for Milwaukee to recall Keston Hiura, and let the 22-year-old step into Shaw's spot in the lineup. Hiura is the Brewers top prospect and he impressed during his brief 17-game stint this year, so why has he not gotten the subsequent call-up?
In 55 Triple-A games, Hiura is batting .324 with a whopping 18 home runs and 44 RBI. So, Milwaukee, what on earth are you waiting for? This man should be playing everyday in the big leagues, especially when you have a player underperforming at the level that Shaw is right now.
Brewers fans are fed up with the Travis Shaw experiment, and frankly, baseball fans should feel slighted that we have not been able to see what the talented Hiura can do with regular MLB playing time.
The Brewers are in a no-lose situation, as no matter how Hiura performs, it will nearly undoubtedly be better than Shaw. It is time to let the youngster take the field, and for the Crew to rid themselves of Shaw once and for all.
