Brewers Sign Former All-Star Shelby Miller to Minor League Deal
By Scott Rogust
After being released by the Texas Rangers, Shelby Miller has a new home on a contending team.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Milwaukee Brewers and Miller agreed to a minor-league deal on Thursday.
After three disastrous seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks following his trade from the Atlanta Braves, Miller signed with the Rangers on a $2 million deal this offseason in hopes of a career turnaround.
That proved not to be the case.
In 19 appearances (eight starts) this season, Miller accumulated a 1-3 record, with a ballooned 8.59 ERA, 1.98 WHIP, and 30:29 strikeout/walk ratio. After being designated for assignment on Monday, the Rangers placed Miller on unconditional release waivers on Thursday.
Now, Miller will look to continue his career resurrection with the Brewers, who have had their fair share of struggles with starting pitchers this season. He could potentially find a spot in the rotation at some point this season. Before he reaches Milwaukee, he will have to trek through the minor league system.
