Brewers Sign Former Cubs Pitcher Justin Grimm
By Michael Luciano
The Milwaukee Brewers may have missed out on the likes of Zack Wheeler in free agency, but that hasn't stopped them from adding pieces to their pitching staff.
Milwaukee signed Justin Grimm, a journeyman reliever best known for his time with the Chicago Cubs in the middle of the decade.
With a 4.98 ERA in seven MLB seasons, Grimm seems like just a garden variety middle reliever. However, he was once an integral member of some Chicago Cubs teams that made some deep runs in the playoffs. From 2014-2016, Grimm posted a 3.36 ERA with the Cubs, striking out 10.6 batters per 9 innings.
Grimm's ERA ballooned to 5.53 in 2017, which led to his release. He didn't play in the majors in 2019 after unsuccessful stints with the Royals and Mariners in 2018.
There are much worse mop-up duty guys out there than Grimm. Maybe Brewers pitching coach Chris Hook can get Grimm back on the right track and help him rediscover the form that made him a part of a Cubs team that won a World Series just a few years ago.
