Brewers Sign Lefty Brent Suter to 2-Year Deal and Avoid Arbitration
By Michael Luciano
The Milwaukee Brewers might have some potential ticking time bombs on their hands as it pertains to their contract situations, but they decided to ink one of their more surprisingly effective starter/reliever hybrids to a deal.
Milwaukee agreed on Sunday to a new two-year contract with soft-tossing lefty Brent Suter, avoiding arbitration.
Suter was a starter in 2017 and 2018, posting a 3.98 ERA in 32 starts. Injuries saw him make only nine appearances out of the bullpen in 2019, but he did put up a 0.49 ERA and a 4-0 record while allowing just one earned run.
Suter struggles to hit 90 miles per hour on his fastball, but his control on the mound and ability to stay one step ahead of whomever is at bat will serve him well in 2020 and beyond.
Suter is the type of low-floor pitcher who can get lefties out in the postseason while eating up some innings in the regular season. A two-year deal at an efficient price comes off as a pretty solid move from the Brewers.
