Brewers Trade for Indians' Infielder Mark Mathias
By Mark Powell

We have a (minor) trade to announce!
The MLB offseason hot stove is still simmering, with very few free agents signing thus far and the trade market rather dormant. On Wednesday night, the Brewers and Indians struck a deal, sending INF Mark Mathias to Milwaukee in exchange for the younger Andres Melendez, a catching prospect.

Neither player has reached the Major League level of yet, but Mathias is likely closer to such a feat given his age and minor league experience. Melendez, meanwhile, is just 18 years old.
The Brewers added Mathias to the 40-man roster, thus protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft. The 25-year-old spent 2019 in Triple-A, recording a .269 batting average with 12 home runs and 59 RBIs. Those respectable numbers at the very least put him in contention for a starting spot at the higher levels of the minors in Milwaukee.

Sorry, Milwaukee. The Mike Moustakas deal will have to wait.
