Brian Cashman 1 Step Ahead of Competition Again by Raiding International Prospect Pool
By Jared Kish
Brian Cashman has been one of the best general managers in all of baseball. Of course, it helps that he is the GM of the New York Yankees and players from other countries think of the Yankees as the biggest sporting franchise in the world.
Cashman is no stranger to scouting the international pool of players and offering them contracts to come play for the Yankees. He found Gary Sanchez a few years back and look how that has panned out. With the signing of Jasson Dominguez, Cashman once again is staying one step ahead of his competition.
Dominguez is a 16-year-old stud who has already been compared to Mike Trout. The Yankees signed the top international prospect to a minor-league deal with a $5.1 million signing bonus. Dominguez is a powerful switch-hitting center fielder with a cannon for an arm.
The Yankees once again proved they can sign the best prospects, as they weren't the only team in the mix. The Texas Rangers, Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels were all rumored to be after the young prospect.
Cashman once again got a top guy to sign with the Yankees and he has proven to the league that he remains ahead of the competition by raiding the international pool and finding top prospects before anyone else. Well done, Brian.
