Brian Cashman Claims Luis Severino Expected to Throw off Mound by Next Week
By Jerry Trotta

This news probably couldn't come at a better time for the fidgety Yankees fan base.
General manager Brian Cashman opted to play the role of the stingy executive ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline and didn't make a major splash for a starting pitcher, despite his rotation's prevalent struggles and Bomber buffs clamoring for him to do so.
Well, it would appear that the club's young ace is making strides in his current rehabilitation. During a Friday interview with WFAN, the GM revealed that Luis Severino could begin throwing off a mound as soon as next week.

The two-time All-Star has been on the shelf for the entirety of the 2019 campaign due to a lat injury. The eventuality of him moving to a mound will reassure Aaron Boone and Co., but the right-handed hurler still has a ways to go before even thinking about making his debut for the Pinstripes.
Sevy will likely have to experience a full Spring Training's-length worth of rehab assignments before the Yanks training staff gives him the OK.
Luis Severino is scheduled to be on a mound Friday while the Yankees are in Toronto.

It remains to be seen if the 25-year-old will be inserted into the starting rotation or bullpen. This update, however, is a step in the right direction for Luis.
Could a September return loom in his future?
