Brian Cashman Says MLB Teams Have Inquired About Thairo Estrada
By Jerry Trotta
Young New York Yankees shortstop Thairo Estrada is unfortunately the victim of the club's current abnormal and stacked infield depth, though the Yanks believe that he's capable of being a full-time MLB starter.
But for Estrada to accomplish that feat, he might have to bite the bullet and accept the fact that it won't be in the Bronx.
In a Monday interview on WFAN radio, general manager Brian Cashman admitted that other teams have taken notice of Estrada's potential and that he's received "a lot of inquires" about the 23-year-old.
Cashman and Co. should absolutely listen to these overtures, as the Bronx Bombers remain in the market for another starting pitcher after Domingo German's injury and, of course, missing out on Dallas Keuchel.
Estrada was just demoted to Triple-A to make room for the newly activated Didi Gregorius, proving that the young Venezuelan will never find room for consistent game time with the likes of Gleyber Torres, DJ LeMahieu, and Didi already splitting time, to say nothing of the injured Troy Tulowitzki.
It's a harsh reality for Estrada, but one he'll ultimately have to accept. At this rate, as Dan Federico points out, it would be utterly shocking if the rookie is still wearing pinstripes come the July 31 trade deadline.
