Brian Flores Insists Ryan Fitzpatrick is Way Ahead of Josh Rosen at Dolphins Camp
By Kevin Aquino
Training camp is the time for NFL players to get acclimated to their new teams (and vice versa), and it looks like quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is doing just that with the Miami Dolphins-- at the expense of another newcomer, Josh Rosen.
Fitzpatrick is reportedly ahead of Josh Rosen in the race to be Miami's starting quarterback, per new head coach Brian Flores. Both men find themselves on the same team after going through some uneven situations last year. Fitzpatrick ended up being benched for the far younger Jameis Winston in Tampa Bay, while Rosen was traded from the Cardinals after they drafted Kyler Murray No. 1 overall.
Going into the fall, "FitzMagic" has pole position on the rising sophomore gunslinger. Fitzpatrick more than doubled his passing yards from 2017 last year with 2,366 in eight games; he also posted a career-high completion percentage of 66.7.
Rosen had only about 100 fewer passing yards than Fitzpatrick last year, but played in six additional games. As a 22-year-old in the NFL, he ought to have plenty of time to prove himself-- but given that he's already playing for his second team, he won't have unlimited chances.
