Brian McCann Remains Uncertain on MLB Future
By Scott Rogust
There was a bit of a reunion this past offseason, as veteran catcher Brian McCann signed with the Atlanta Braves, the team who selected him in the 2002 MLB Draft. The original belief was that McCann would end his career in Atlanta, but when that will happen remains to be seen.
When speaking with David O'Brien of The Athletic on Monday, McCann said he's yet to decide on his future, only answering with, "we'll see what happens."
McCann, who came off knee surgery last year, signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Braves. Given his age and health, many expected the catcher to call it a career following the 2019 campaign.
Yet, McCann is having a bit of a resurgence with Atlanta, presenting no issues with his surgically repaired knee. In 53 games this season, McCann's recorded a .257 batting average and .755 OPS with 8 home runs and 31 RBI in 53 games.
With McCann giving no hints at the midway point of the regular season, expect a more definite answer at season's end, and the end result of the Atlanta Braves' year could play a role in that very decision.
