Brian Snitker Says Braves are 'Not Optimistic' After Nick Markakis Leaves Game With Wrist Injury
By Karl Rasmussen

Nick Markakis exited Friday's game after suffering an injury in the batter's box. The veteran was hit by a pitch during the contest against the Phillies, hurting his wrist and being forced out of action.
After the game, manager Brian Snitker gave a worrisome update on the 2018 All-Star's status, saying that the team was "not optimistic" about his status going forward.
Brian Snitker says it was Nick Markakis’ wrist that HBP. He says it does not look good, team is not optimistic. Will get an update tomorrow. #Braves

Markakis left after scoring in the sixth inning, and while it was encouraging to see him stay in the game, Snitker's remarks postgame are less than ideal.
While the Braves look to build their NL East lead, they were hoping to have all hands on deck. It seems likely they'll have to fend off their division rivals without the veteran outfielder.
Snitker said #Braves are not optimistic about Nick Markakis' condition after getting hit in the hand by pitch. Said "it doesn't look good" but they'll wait to study the tests before making a decision

He'll undergo tests before the Braves decide whether or not an IL stint is necessary, but this doesn't sound good for the 35-year-old.
On the year, Markakis is slashing .286/.358/.431 with 9 home runs and 55 RBI. If he misses time, there's a chance he would be replaced defensively by Ender Inciarte, allowing Austin Riley to remain in left field.
