Brock Holt Likely Headed to Join Red Sox in Houston as Jersey Appears in Locker Room
By Karl Rasmussen
The Boston Red Sox have been without Brock Holt for all but six games this season, as the utility man has been sidelined since April 5, with both an injury to his eye (caused by his own son) as well as a shoulder impingement.
Holt hasn't been traveling with the team while he nurses the shoulder impingement, but it looks like he's set to rejoin the team in Houston for Saturday's clash. Per Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, the Astros clubhouse had a locker with No. 12 on it, Holt's jersey number.
This would be excellent news for the Red Sox, who could use the added depth provided by the 30-year-old, especially when pegged up against one of the toughest teams in baseball. Even if he's not activated until Sunday, that's a boon.
Holt was ineffective at the beginning of the season, slashing .063/.211/.063 with just one hit and one RBI in 19 plate appearances. Obviously, it's a small sample size (with a serious eye malady) and doesn't do justice to his value to the team. He was far superior across 109 games in 2018, slashing .277/.362/.411 with seven homers and 46 RBI.
Holt had been rehabbing with Double-A Portland, but was not at the club's game Saturday, suggesting he could be on the road and heading to Houston for the second game of the series.
