Brodie Van Wagenen Reveals Mets Plans for Edwin Diaz and Noah Syndergaard This Offseason

The New York Mets figure to look a whole lot different in 2019, particularly the coaching staff, after the team fired Mickey Callaway on Thursday. While the organization seeks out a replacement skipper, the team is also announcing its plans for some of the Mets' marquee players.
GM Brodie Van Wagenen, who wasn't even asked this question by the media, revealed that the Mets plan to hold onto both Edwin Diaz and Noah Syndergaard this offseason.
After recording over 50 saves with the Seattle Mariners in 2018, Diaz came to New York with Robinson Canó as part of a blockbuster offseason trade. He struggled mightily, logging a career-worst 5.59 ERA across 58 innings.
The trade didn't pan out for the Mets, and may have cost Callaway his job, but the club is looking for Diaz to bounce back in 2020.
As for Syndergaard, he had an up-and-down 2019 season, though he turned in a stellar second half , during which he logged a 3.82 ERA and 101 strikeouts across 92 innings. He was entrenched in trade rumors throughout the month of July, but the Mets ended up holding onto the 27-year-old, which seems to be the plan going forward.
Both Syndergaard and Diaz are up for arbitration in 2020, and it doesn't look as if either will be going anywhere when all is said and done.
