Brodie Van Wagenen's Latest Comments Suggest Mets Aren't Trading for Starling Marte
By Sean Facey

Much has been made about the New York Mets' interest in Starling Marte, and recent reports have suggested that the team was coming ever closer to acquiring him.
But based on what general manager Brodie Van Wagenen had to say, it doesn't seem like the Mets will be trading for the standout Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder this offseason.
Brodie Van Wagenen says he can't envision making a deal at this point in the offseason that would significantly disrupt the Mets' current outfield mix.

In other words, don't count on Starling Marte or anyone else coming in. The Mets like what they have.
Per Anthony DiComo, Van Wagenen said that a significant change to the team's starting outfield alignment didn't seem likely in his eyes. His comments pretty much yank the Mets right out of the thick of trade discussions for Marte.
Talks had been intensifying between the two sides throughout the course of the week, but BVW's latest comments doused the flames of those rumors.
It's not necessarily a back-breaker, though. In truth, the Mets have an incredibly talented outfield. Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto and JD Davis all finished last season with a wRC+ of 114 or higher. Not to mention the return of Yoenis Cespedes, as much of a question mark as he may be. That's a more than serviceable group of outfielders.

While Marte could provide some pop and speed for the Mets, Van Wagenen seems comfortable with the guys he has on the roster already.
