Steve Atwater has been vying for a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the past three years, and according to the latest reports Saturday, Denver Broncos fans can rejoice: his wait is over.

Per insider Nicki Jhabvala, the celebrated safety is set to be one formally announced as part of the Hall of Fame's 2020 class during Saturday night's NFL Honors.

An unmissable physical presence, Atwater spent 10 years in Denver patrolling the secondary. He was drafted by the team in 1989 as a first-round pick out of Arkansas, and across his Broncos tenure, he made eight Pro Bowls, made three All-Pro teams, and won a pair of Super Bowls.

Oh, and he laid a few big hits along the way.

Across 167 games, Atwater recorded 26 interceptions and logged 1,188 tackles, including a career-best 173 in his second season in the league.

Atwater latched on with the Jets in 1999 before calling it a career after his age 33 season.

It's been reported that fellow ex-Bronco and current 49ers GM John Lynch did not make the Hall of Fame this year in what was his seventh season on the ballot.

Lynch, a hard-hitting safety who boasts credentials quite to Atwater, was optimistic about his chances of election in 2020, but unfortunately he'll have to keep biding his time on the ballot. In the meantime, we'll be content to run back that highlight of Atwater lowering the boom on Christian Okoye a few more times.
