Broncos To Start 2nd-Round Pick Drew Lock Sunday Against Chargers
By Michael Luciano
After last week's choke job authored by Brandon Allen, the Drew Lock era is upon us in Denver.
The 2019 second-round pick out of Missouri will make his NFL regular season debut this week against the Los Angeles Chargers after missing most of the season with a thumb injury, per insider Ian Rapoport.
Joe Flacco being lost for the year due to injury surely accelerated the time frame the Broncos had in mind to get Lock ready to make his NFL debut. And here we are.
Lock completed 63% of his passes during his final year at Mizzou, trowing for 3,498 yards and 28 touchdowns against eight interceptions. The prior season, Lock set an SEC single-season record with 44 TD passes.
Lock may not be the most mobile quarterback and has accuracy issues downfield, but his arm talent is awe-inspiring at times, and that coupled with his willingness to chuck it deep down the field should pair well with Courtland Sutton and Denver's stable of wideouts.
The Chargers have proven to be tough on young quarterbacks (just ask Lamar Jackson), but Lock has his first chance to prove that he's the future of the franchise at Mile High.
