Broncos RB Theo Riddick to Miss 6-to-8 Weeks With Shoulder Fracture
Denver's recent addition to the running backs room could take a while to acclimate himself, after the team's second preseason game was marred by unfortunate news.
Former Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick fractured his shoulder Thursday against Seattle and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks recovering.
The pass-catching threat signed with Denver on August 4 after being released by Detroit to boost a relatively inexperienced running backs room with the Broncos. Phillip Lindsay's breakout rookie season was impressive, but regression is to be expected with the second-year back. Royce Freeman disappointed in his first season in the NFL and will be given the opportunity to try and bounce back this year.
With Riddick missing time, Lindsay becomes even more important than before, but don't count out Devontae Booker. The fourth-year back has averaged 33 receptions in each of his first three seasons in the NFL and could continue to be an option in Riddick's absence.
Riddick's best season of his six-year career in Detroit came in 2015 when he rushed for 133 yards and caught 80 of his 99 targets for 697 yards and three touchdowns. Riddick was slowly fazed out of Detroit's offense, and will look to regain his form in Denver when he returns from injury.
