Broncos Safety Kareem Jackson Suspended for Final 2 Games of Regular Season
By Karl Rasmussen
The Denver Broncos will play the final two games of their lost 2019 season without a key member of their secondary.
According to reports, safety Kareem Jackson has been suspended for the final two games of the year for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
Jackson has featured and started in 13 games this season, recording two interceptions, 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble and 71 total tackles.
The 31-year-old was arrested on Sept. 19 for driving under the influence, and the incident was immediately reported to the team.
Prior to the 2019 season, Jackson had spent his first nine NFL seasons as a member of the Texans where he appeared in a total of 132 games. The former first-round pick was selected by the Texans with the 20th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Despite having played cornerback during most of his tenure in Houston, Jackson transitioned to safety in 2018 and stayed in that role upon moving to Denver.
He signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Broncos this offseason, but has a potential out after the 2020 season, for a dead cap hit of just $3 million.
