Broncos Trading for Jurrell Casey is a Huge Steal and Indicates Joe Flacco Could Be Released
It's not often you're able to land a 6-1, 305-pound warrior for your defensive line seemingly out of nowhere. And for the Denver Broncos, they've accomplished that feat in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
On Wednesday morning, multiple reports surfaced stating the Broncos have acquired veteran defensive lineman Jurrell Casey from the Tennessee Titans. Yup, only for a seventh-rounder.
Hello Denver! What a move for GM John Elway, who was able to land a true Pro Bowl talent for a late pick. Casey has been a stud for the Titans ever since joining the team in 2011, with more than 50 sacks to his name.
In 2019, his fifth consecutive campaign where he was named to the Pro Bowl, Casey posted 44 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Casey, still only 30, has plenty left in the tank and will be ready to bring his ferocious ways in the trenches to the AFC West. Obviously, this is bad news for opposing quarterbacks.
The Titans were clearly looking to dump his salary, and Denver is more than happy to take it. In 2020, Casey will have a base of $11.25 million, with a cap hit of $11.787 million.
The addition of Casey to Denver will likely signal some future moves, including the anticipated release of backup quarterback Joe Flacco, whom they acquired from the Ravens last offseason. Flacco is expected to join the sizable pool of veteran free agent quarterbacks where he'll look for his next opportunity.
