Browns Announce Odell Beckham Jr. Underwent Core Muscle Surgery
By Jerry Trotta
As if the Cleveland Browns failing to live up to their billing in 2019 wasn't enough, it was revealed -- with less than a month left in the regular season -- that Odell Beckham Jr. played through a sports hernia for a majority of the campaign.
After the stunning disclosure, Beckham met with a specialist to determine if he needed surgery. Well, fast forward to Tuesday, and the Browns announced that the three-time Pro Bowler underwent a successful core muscle operation.
Cleveland didn't leak a timetable for OBJ to resume football activity, but the LSU product is expected to make a full recovery. There wasn't even an indication that Beckham would be in danger of missing training camp, so Browns buffs should be feeling optimistic following this news.
Generally, sports hernia surgeries come with a two-month recovery timetable.
Beckham's first season in The Land was a genuine letdown. Perhaps his hip and hernia ailments had something to do with that, but his subpar rapport with Baker Mayfield was apparent and equally alarming.
The 27-year-old WR logged 74 receptions for 1,035 yards, and just four touchdowns -- one fewer than the career low he mustered starting just two games for the Giants back in 2017.
Fans in Cleveland will be hoping Beckham suffers no setbacks during his rehab and works intently on developing a chemistry with Mayfield prior to next season.
