Browns Cornerback Situation Bleak Against Ravens
By Jerry Trotta
Through three weeks of the 2019 NFL campaign, the Cleveland Browns have markedly failed to live up to their preseason hype.
Sure, the team is 1-2 and just one game behind the first-place Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North, but a quick eye test is all you need to come to terms with the fact that Freddie Kitchens' squad is FAR from a finished product.
Well, things won't get any easier on Sunday as the Browns will head into their showdown against the aforementioned Ravens without their top two cornerbacks. Insider Ian Rapoport understands that both Denzel Ward (hamstring) and Greedy Williams (hamstring) will NOT suit up for the divisional clash.
Now, we know what you're thinking. Ward and Williams missed last weekend's tilt against the Rams and Cleveland's D performed considerably well.
Folks, Jared Goff does not enjoy throwing the deep ball, so Los Angeles didn't exactly game plan to expose the two corners absences by going over the top. Rather, they unleashed Cooper Kupp on a profusion of underneath crossing routes, and still only mustered 20 points on the scoreboard.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are an entirely different story. How many times has the sophomore superstar connected on a bomb to Hollywood Brown through three weeks? We've truthfully lost count.
All we ask of Browns buffs is to temper expectations heading into Sunday. Expecting the defense to display a repeat of last weekend's showing is a damning ask considering the polar opposite offensive schemes of LA and Baltimore.
