Browns Should Sign Darqueze Dennard After Failed Deal With Jags and Surprise Return to Free Agency
By Jack Murphy
After initially agreeing to a three-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, it seems that veteran cornerback Darqueze Dennard will not be continuing his NFL career in Florida after all.
Dennard and the Jaguars were unable to finalize the terms on the contract, which ultimately sent him back to the open market. This is now the perfect opportunity for the Cleveland Browns. Dennard wouldn't even have to go that far!
Cleveland could add some veteran leadership to a young group of defensive backs and continue their active offseason in which they've added Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo to the secondary.
While Cleveland's defense as a whole was solid last season, it still needs some work. They were 13th in the NFL in passing touchdowns allowed and, even worse, they ranked 26th in passing yards vs opposing offenses.
Dennard would be joining cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams, both of whom could stand to use a veteran presence giving them some assistance.
While the Browns fell short of their expectations in 2019, this upcoming season could break out the Dawg Pound's untapped potential if they can bring a guy like Dennard on board to help out the cause.
