Well, we didn't see this one coming.

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku was upended while hauling in a pass from Baker Mayfield early on in Monday night's clash versus the New York Jets. He was subsequently tested for a concussion and ruled out for the rest of the game.

Fast forward to Tuesday and NFL insider Adam Schefter has provided a damning update on the 2017 first-round pick, reporting that he also suffered a wrist injury on the play.

Shortly thereafter, Ian Rapoport joined in, revealing that the dominant TE suffered a broken wrist.

Njoku might need surgery to repair the damage, but he is expected to weigh his options to determine if an operation is his only course of action here.

It would be farfetched to label this a potentially devastating loss for the Browns offense, as Njoku has struggled to cut out a significant role in the passing game. However, he's still a top-notch TE with soft hands who serves as a trustworthy security blanket for Mayfield.

For those who missed Njoku's awkward-looking tumble, we've got you covered.

Stay tuned for updates to see if the former Miami Hurricane does indeed opt for surgery. We expect that he's still facing a month-long absence, at least, regardless of what other medical advice he receives.
